I made it easy to work on, to drain and even to add more barrels to. the center barrels were driled and tapped thru one of the plugs. I wanted the hoses to be long enough not to get in the way like they would if I had used PVC plumbing. plus they could be cut and more barres added easily. So I used up old hoses that had been cut or whatever. I have maybe $40 in it. Got the barrels for free at a cleaning place, used vinegar to neutralize what was in them according to the people. Left about a gallon of vinegar and about 2 gallons of water in them over winter to make sure.

we just had a decent rain, about 1 1/2" and the barrels are all full and ready for use. that was quick. I found one connection that needs a new rubber washer replaced but that is no big deal in this system. the wife is very happy to have this much water to be used in the two gardens. and it is FREE water!

Wish I could send you some of the water we are getting here. Can’t get into the garden patch without sinking up to my ankles in mud.

Some states don't allow harvesting rain water. CA and CO are two. I always thought what ever was or lands on your land was yours. Someone in Spain claims ownership of the minerals under my land. Not sure how justified that is. How did the King of Spain grant himself ownership.
If a state issued a "Cease and Desist" order over collecting rain, would you have to return the rain you "stole" from the State? To the victors go the rains.
I had a couple of rain barrels but it wasn't working out. I only get about 8"/year. Not enough to collect.
