Check under the floorboards around the fireplaces if you can! I've had great luck in a few houses where the floor around the fireplace was rotted away. Also in one house on my parents property which we tore down, the mantle held a treasure trove of things which were lost in a crack behind it including cigarette cards, tons of combs, match books, etc.

That's a Queen Cutlery Co. knife, made in Titusville, PA. The handle looks to be the delrin (plastic) version of their "Winterbottom bone" scales which dates it roughly 1960s or later.

That site is way cool! You gotta love old remote buildings like that. The knife looks a lot like a Western brand pocketknife. With bone handle, or faux bone. But it may be some other brand. Keep us posted after you go back again.

Thanks I plan on going back sooner than later( snakes) and I might try to go inside the house and see if anything was left behind
Let someone know where you’re going (friend/family) in case something goes wrong. Old structures can be dangerous. I broke through a floor, years ago. No serious injury. House had a cellar under it. Lucky I didn’t end up there. The entrance to cellar had collapsed. It would have been hard to get out.

Most chimneys that I’m familiar with, had a clean out door/cover toward the bottom. Allowed you to remove soot and ashes that build up. Can be a great hiding place for someone’s non-flammable treasures.
