🔎 UNIDENTIFIED Possible good sized yellow agate?

Was metal detecting my freshly plowed field and noticed this rock and thought hmm this looks interesting. I have a few small speciems of yellow agate and noticed it is similar. I took it home and cleaned it and flashed a light through it and gets good color through it. Hopefully it is at least something interesting.

Could be I have no idea. I don't know much about rocks/minerals

That is cool, it would be cool polished up in a rock polisher/tumbler. I have found rocks that color before and never thought to do a light test. I will now.

Yeah some yellow agates native in Central California looks like plain rocks but they are actually agates. Not sure if this one is the color is close to right but may be some sort of native quartz. Hopefully someone more knowledgeable than I will know but it does closely look like a few specimens I know for sure are yellow agates I got from a beach here in California where small specimens are fairly common to find. Though my luck it's probably not what I want it to be but that's okay still regardless should polish up nicely.

Imo, Its just quartz with iron staining called Citrine. I usually see rocks like those used for landscaping

Then it is what it is. I didn't assume it was anything just looked like some yellow agate can look like. If it's just quartz I accept that.

Also what made me question it is it's very heavy for it's size. Since agate is dense I thought there was a chance it could be. Just out of the off chance it was an agate wanted to just make sure. If it isn't I still think it will polish nicely as light shows it's got some nice color. I didn't hold much hope it was what I was thinking.

Citrine is usually reserved for Quartz in the standard crystal form, this is more than likely a weathered, Iron stained Quartzite rock or possibly a Chalcedony nodule also iron stained.

Thank you, I'll trust it is just that. I have a friend that enjoys polishing rocks so I guess it will have use for that at least. Lol I hate when I let excitement get to me and make myself look dumb. Metal detecting for years and looking for treasures for many years I should know my stuff already.

I'm not seeing any banding so I dont think you have an agate there, if you have a tile saw or anyone with a 10 inch wet tile saw I'd cut it in half to know for sure, then polish it that way, then again, I'm addicted to cutting open rocks, just love seeing what's inside lol.
