Post # 1000, 2007 year-end finds, 85 silver, lots 'O pics.....
Well, here it is, the mighty, mighty post 1000.................
So, the end of my first official season, our dirt is under 15" of snow(I make obscene gestures in the general direction of all who detect in California). All in all it was an amazing first year, I hit many good firsts(obviously), I didn't make all my goals, but I hit stuff that I figured I would be waiting years to find. I managed an LC, a flying eagle penny, oh, just look at the pics.
Thanx to all the words of experience and advice from all of you, it has proved to be extremely beneficial(except for capt se, I don't know if I can bring myself to stagger like that in a public park, we have intoxication laws in WI), and my advice to the noobs is, listen to these guys and girls, they know what they're doing, they're only crazy on the outside.
OK, on to the goodies, did really good on the silver, did ok on the gold. The final clad count for the year was 1,163 coins(727 pennies, 70 nickels, 201 dimes, 165 quarters) for a total of $72.62. I ended up with 396 wheat pennies(my goal was 100), and 86 silver coins(my goal was 25).
Some of the highlights, an 1842 LC, an 1857 flying eagle penny, and an 1864 "L" IH(with almost 4 diamonds). An 1841o, seated half-dime, an 1878 seated dime, a 1917 type 1 slq, 1909 barber half, a civil war button, and an infantry button, and a big gold/diamond/opal pendant.
Totals were -
396 wheats, 30 IH pennies, 1 eagle penny, 1 lc
14 buffalo nickels, 4 "V", 1 shield, 7 silvers('42-'45), and a half-dime
1 seated dime, 5 barber dimes, 34 mercs, 24 rosies
8 silver washingtons, 3 SLQ, 1 barber quarter
1 barber half, and a 1920 canadian dime.
I also got a bunch of nice silver jewelry, and a few pieces of gold, I would have to say, I'm very happy with the year I had, and am looking forward to the thaw already, have a good off-season, and a happy holidays.
