post-mint damage or error?

Found this in a Coinstar return: thought someone had ground it down but the weight is exactly 5g. The color and sheen is uniform - the flash makes it look dulled. Damaged or roll-splitter?

It is damage. Got smushed by something

Thanks - just wanted to make sure. The last nickel oddity I turned up like that was a planchet with a small sharp edge that spelled "unum". Didn't know the die could nip so little.
