Neat! I've found thin pieces of brass with embossing on them similar to yours and did not know what they were. I'll have to look at them again and see if they could be a flask. These would have gone out of use when cartridge firearms made them obsolete, so they are at least that old. So likely before 1850 but of course the muzzleloaders were still used for awhile so could be a bit later.

Congratulations on finding a powder flask. I think that is a really cool item, and was lucky enough to find a complete one myself earlier this year. Here is a link to a good article about powder flasks, which might shed a little light on its age. Hopefully the link works, as I am not a techie.

I read this article as well and was going to post this link. Although it talks about when metallic powder flasks first started to appear, it doesn't really give an end date. I know there were gun makers in my area still making muzzle loaders into the 1870s. I'm thinking this one is probably in the 1840-1870 range, but I could be wrong.
