My wife Julia and I invited Dman and VOL1266-X (Doug & Quindy) to make our third trip to the old home site we have been hunting together. We didn’t expect that much but all of us felt there were still buttons to be dug there.
We met up at the site this morning and I walked a few feet from the truck and got a terrific signal. When I dug it, I couldn’t believe my eyes. There was a very bright CSA buckle in my hand. Now, I have dug and seen many CSA buckles but this one must have been a variant. I looked toward Doug and he looked like the cat that swallowed the canary. Quindy made his way over to us and I showed him my find and he struggled to keep from laughing. If you ever have the pleasure of hunting with these two guys, beware of what you may find. LOL.
Julia got a nice ball button and Quindy dug a few flat buttons including the first silvered cuff button that he has dug in a couple of years as he’s not big on house hunting. He said I had the find of the day with the brass saddle ornament in the 2nd picture. I have dug 3 more and one was from Morgan’s CSA Cavalry Camp. Quindy drooled all over the one I dug today as it’s in the top 10 on his wish list. After lunch, I gave it to him to remember our hunt by despite his protests.
Late in our 3 hour hunt, Doug unseated my Best Find of the day with an early pre-CW General Shield Eagle 2 piece button shown in the 3rd picture. It was silvered to boot and he’s researching the age. It was in great shape and had an intact shank. He thinks he sees a Waterbury Co. back mark but more to come on that one. It could be early 1840s-mid 1850s.
Our combined recoveries are in the last picture. We had a great day of hunting together. I know people who are sick and disabled who Julia and I hunted with in past years who would give everything they own to just go hunting one more time. The four of us plan on hunting together for many more years if we can. I might add that the C.S.A buckle that I dug was very shallow and that Doug was really watching me! I'll get him back you know. Some of the buttons had a lot of nice gilt and the eagle button that Doug found had a lot of silver wash on it. Pretty rare to find one like that. Quindy and D-Man are first clss guys to hunt with and we can't wait to do it agan! Also the brass shield device was silvered too.

HH, Donnie.

Man those Jokers! I talked to Quindy this morning before y'all met up, and he never mentioned the prank. :laughing7: There are some good "authentic" saves in that pile.

Yea, D-Man's probation officer said the same thing about the mean part. T.D.

Come on people. Read his story first! lol

Nice digs Donnie & crew! Those old house sites always have something interesting to give up, and there is often a military relic or two mixed in

Hahaha You will have 20 banner nominations by the end of the night. :laughing7:

The joke that was played on you is now getting paid forward to the illiterati of TreasureNet. I love it!

That shield is a great item. Congrats on a fun hunt, all!

I started hunting east of the truck and you three headed west. I heard all this laughing and wondered what was going on. Then, I heard Julia say "Got a button" and I went on hunting. When I moved back to you guys, I had the pleasure of viewing your Banner recovery. That Dman is a clown-LOL.
As usual, we had a great time today. I added a few more buttons to my meager finds from that site and a silvered saddle ornament that I will forever cherish in my collection. Maybe someday I will dig a C.S.A. buckle just like yours-LOL. Let's go hunting again next week, Q.

Congrats on having some friends out and making some GREAT finds. :icon_thumright:

Thats cruel Quindy!!!I like your style though!!!
I did that with an arrowhead I made and my budy found it,then lost it and then found a real one looking for it

Wow, Buckle my dream to find one day. Great job.

Donnie,
Great post, and super finds for all of you. :icon_thumleft: That place has probably been pounded more that a blacksmiths anvil, but you guys still produce some great CW relics.
As far as the CSA buckle, does it say "made in China" on the back? :laughing9:
Those two clowns learned from the best. :icon_jokercolor:

Cody, I'm sure we will pay for it long term-LOL. If you see a Banner recovered by Dman or myself, let us know if it's real or not. Dman is apprenticing with Modern Miner on how to be a clown-LOL.
BTW, Donnie knows what a real C.S.A. buckle looks like coming out of the ground. That pewter C.S.A. in his avatar didn't come from Ebay. HH, Q.
