:) You need to find a book written by Frank Fish, he found lots of gigantic gold caches in those areas. You also need to be very vigialnt as there are green growers and just plain crazy folks liveing in some of those counties. Frank Fish was a casulty of someones greed,as he got to well known, and was being followed on a regular basis. He was found dead ,coroner said suicide, most others said murder, then most of his collections were stolen. Still he had more leads than he could ever track down.------------good hunting

Any suggestions on rivers/streams to go prospecting on in Placer/El Dorado/Amador counties would be apprciated. Directions would also be greatly appreciated.

Hello findgold58,

Lost Treasure magazine's January issue published a number of hot sites for prospecting in Nor~Cal! This list was recently compiled so the data is pretty recent. I'll copy the list for you below...

Other areas of El Dorado County where gold has recently been found is, Chili Bar on the South Fork of the American River, west of Volcanoville along the Middle Fork, BB sized nuggets have been found east of Nashville on the Middle Fork of the Consumnes River, and NE of Placerville
one to two miles NW of Slab Creek Reservoir.

Placer County
In Placer County where one 14 year old miner recently pulled a rich nugget from Rollins Lake then stood in disbelief at its size. Doubting his own eyes the boy told himself what he found couldnā€™t be goldā€¦ But he knew better. Fourteen year-old Colfax resident, Jacob Hopkins, his older brother and their father, Mike Hopkins were fishing on Rollins Lake near their home when Jacob spotted something shinny in the water. He walked out into the lake and picked up the rock, according to KFOR-TV News.

Jacobā€™s father, Mike Hopkins said, ā€œI saw him jumping up and down and he even had a tear in his eye when he walked up with it.ā€ What Jacob found was a potato sized 1 pound rock containing six ounces of gold, worth $5,500. Jacob said he walked into the waterā€¦ ā€œand grabbed it and I was like ā€˜oh my gosh, that cannot be gold, it is!ā€™ then I ran up to my dad and showed him.ā€ Jacob recognized gold because he, his older brother and their father are all experienced weekend prospectors. Soon after the news went public a mini gold rush hit Rollins Lake as people started showing up with gold pans and metal detectors. Jacob says he plans to buy a new motorcycle and jokes that heā€™ll probably even make a few new friends.

Prospectors have been finding good color along the American River in the Michigan Bluff area.

Plumas County
A group of three men and one woman have found good color in Plumas County working a small tributary of the Feather River just on the outer edge of the Mother Lode. A spokesman for the group, Dean Howard, 49, has been dredging and panning in this region for the past 27 years, according to the Appeal-Democrat. During dredging season the group camps for weeks at a time in the Sierras and makes a run into town for provisions every 2 to 3 weeks. Howard states everyone in the group usually breaks even and no one yet has struck a big bonanza, but clearly prospecting is a lifestyle and once youā€™ve been bitten by the gold bug, youā€™re hooked.

Butte County
In Butte County prospectors report good color being found at Milsap Bar, Brush Creek, and in the French Creek areas.

Amador County
The creeks north of Fiddletown and Plymouth are reported to be producing good quantities of gold. Nugget gold can be found in Big Indian Creek, and the Dry Creek area is reported to be
producing gold. North of Ione ā€œpea sized clinkersā€ are being found in the Forest Home area. Jackson Creek has been producing good color for the past 10 years near Pine Grove.

Sierra County
Flake and nugget gold is being found at the confluence of the Yuba and Downie Rivers just below Downieville. Large nuggets are reported to have recently been pulled from the North Yuba River in this vicinity. Gold continues to be found around the Indian Hill area and in Fiddle Creek
north of Highway 49.

Yuba County
Gold has been found on the South Yuba River near French Corral.

Nevada County
Good gold deposits are in both the Grass Valley and Nevada City areas. The area is covered with several mining shafts and tunnels. This area is bounded with bench placer deposits and its believed that untouched tertiary gravel deposits still remain to be discovered.

Best of luck to you amigo!
