Odd question, but you folks seem to to be the ones to ask.

With the rise in gold prices I'm thinking of culling my thrifted hoard of gold service pins. I would always save the following from the smelters: fraternity/sorority, military, defense, aircraft/airlines, railroad, auto, fast food, beer, soft drink, John Deere, and computer companies. Are there any other types or company names that one should avoid scrapping? Thanks!

Seems like you've covered alot of different types.
Just how many different types have you amassed?

College, military, beer, and computer ones in 10K, a bunch of the rest in gold-filled. The presumably future scrap ones are fraternal organization, church, non-trendy industry and union. Also trying to save ones that are historically significant. I just rescued a Marine Corps one out of a dealer's melt box.

I,d say search Ebay, etsy, similar sites to see what those like yours sold for.Not what,s asking, finished sales. Then you,ll know if they,re worth more than scrap value. Best I,ve got.

I'd say anything you think about scrapping, try to sell individually first. If nobody wants it after a few relistings, and nobody shows interest, cull it.

you never know what someone is going to want 5 years down the line though, and imo its all worth keeping unless you have bills to pay.
