question about traveling with a metal detector

this may sound stupid but im going to mexico soon, and was curious if any of you knew if
A.) are you allowed to check a metal detector in your luggage for flights over the border?
and
B.) does anyone know where i can research laws of detecting on mexican beaches?

from what I read in the forum,

You can take detectors as Luggage. (Did you get a new one yet ?)
Just take the Batteries out.
