Ive got quite a few hours into this machine, and am learning the tones pretty good. It has been doing an outstanding job finding coins in trashy areas. (i.e. copper pennies laying with or near nails, etc.)

I was just wondering if the GT will also pick out silver coins laying near iron? Ive heard lots of people on here say you have to dig up the trash to find silver.

Its a really great machine, Im glad I spent the extra money.

The Sov GT will indeed sound off on Silver coins very near iron trash. Silver being more conductive than clad is even easier to find. Many have turned up the disc on the none Minelabs and only dug silver but they never overlapped enough so they left much of it for us to find.

Thats what I was hopeing someone whould say. Thanks sandman.

Sandman is right on as usual, silver will scream next to iron on the GT, the major advantage to Minelabs. The combination of a WOT and Sov GT is hard to beat on a beach and should be almost as good on land if in non trashy area......

Sandman,
Can you tell me the differance you listen for between a clad dime and a Merc both at 2" in loam?
I'm having a difficult time telling the differance.
Thanks

There may not really be a difference between the two coins except in the pitch of the sound. You must have great ears and the best headphones you can afford to hear the tiny differences. My ears aren't the best anymore and weren't that good when I got out of the Navy. The conductivity of a clad coin and a silver coin of the same size would be very close togetherl.

I don't pay all that much attention to the pitch or tone, if it makes a noise, I dig!! I let my eyes id the thingy...........

Thanks Sandman. I too have poor hearing even with good phones.
Any signals like those usually get dug anyhow.

Sandman answered it all but I'll just add this testimony.

Last summer I took my GT to an old school site that has been hunted to death and heavy equipment has leveled the land. There's been landfill and all sorts of bad things happen there. You can dig 1990's Memorial pennies, pulltabs, bottle caps, tin foil, etc., at 8-10 inches deep.

I use this worked out (messed up) site to test my machines and learn the signals.

Again, last summer I took the GT to one very bad area just loaded with nails, foil, bottle caps, and pulltabs. I worked very slowly back and forth and suddenly I got a nice smooth signal. I dug down only a few inches and in the middle of a bunch of trash was a nice high-grade silver ring!

I'd been over and over that site with other machines and never got anything but nulled bad signals.

The GT and all Minelabs excel in pulling silver and copper from iron infested sites.

Everybody talks about depth but there's a lot more to finding what's out there than just depth.
