Hey all my good friends,

My buddy and I went out yesterday to enjoy an absolutely beautiful day of metal detecting. It was a great day to say the least. As soon as we got there we hit a campsite/part of Confederate line. We recovered several nice minies and a nice Williams Cleaner. I took him to another area where we both pulled out some very nice buttons. His looked like a two piece with possibly a design on it....Mine was a flat button with the shank still intact, probably came off of a Confederate jacket. I found a few musketballs there as well
But the best find of the day was definitely the Bormann fuse that my bud found in absolutely GREAT condition! It had been used but it was still attached to the threads and all. It was a great find! This was probably a piece of artillery that was taken from the Yankees and shot back at them by the Confederates as attested in the official accounts of the battle ;D
On the way back to our vehicle I found something that looks like it may be an old butt plate. Not sure though (in the picture, it is in the upper righthand corner)..and I also found a nice part of a boss bit. It was exactly in the area where Union Cavalry was stationed to guard the flank. It could have come from one of those Pennsylvania boys' horses. ;)

It was a great day of hunting and we enjoyed it A WHOLE LOT. I have videos of the hunt as well if I can find a quick and efficient way to upload them than I will add them for all your viewing pleasure ;D ;D ;) I added two videos below of our first find and a first for this spot...But if anyone knows a quicker way than Google Video...Please let me know :) And all my friends on here: ModernMiner, CivilMan1, KirkPA, ZoyBoy, KFB, Will aka BuckleBoy, Montana Jim and all my other good friends, let me know what you boyz think ;) ;) ;) HH Oh yeah, Disclaimer: First time trying to use a DVR to record while doing recovery work. 8)

P.S. Not pictured were the 8 or 9 pieces of Buck and Ball that I found...they were too far down in the pouch to try to get to.

Awesome! I love the movies as an additional feature! :)

Great pile-o-relics... I'm so glad others here have an appreciation for that stuff, and not just coins.

Well done!

Josh,
High five to you and your buddy on some great relics. I really like that cleaner bullet and fuse.
Thanks for the videos, they let us all be there with you guys. I need to learn how to do that, it really adds to a post.
You a truly a dedicated relic hunter with your research & finds. What I like about your posts are you provide us all with some history of the areas you hunt. Thanks & congrats!!!

P.S. Any back marks on the buttons?

Well thanks Doug. I do it for you guys who I knew would appreciate it! I agree as well, I like seeing others digging up there relics in real life so this is the second best way to achieve that. And shoot, when your out in those woods digging in actual spots where there are Confederate Earthworks and spots where huge firefights insued....to me it is impossible not to point it out. I am glad that you enjoyed them my good friend!!! As far as the button goes, I am still soaking it but will let you know later once the dirt comes off.

WOW. What a collection of belt plates, box plates, etc etc.....Man I bet you had some GOOD TIMES. :icon_thumleft:

Hey man great stuff. Loved the vids, keep them coming. As soon as I get over this sinus infection, I'll be getting out for a mess of goodies. Hard to get a nice fuse like that, they are generally warped or twisted or in pieces.

Thanks again Josh for the hunt :) I had a "blast". Even though some Yankee thought he hunted the site close to the redoubt he missed a PERFECT fuse less then 1" under the ground. Next time we hunt will be in Dinwiddie ;)

Great finds, keep up the good work. I cant wait to find my first civil war bullet.
