3 hours on day3 on the new Farm with 2 great finds. Must have missed the third... :laughing7:
We covered the dug holes as usual, but our footprints in the mud looked like there was a horde of wild boars in the field.
After all that rain and melting snow there was water just below the surface.
31461068kf.jpg

We worked towards what looks like the main site on this field finding more musket balls than roman stuff.
31461070sp.jpg

A German 20mm shell (very dangerous) we left for Bomb Disposal.
31461067hg.jpg

Aluminum shotgun casing and pliers.
31461071sn.jpg

31461073pg.jpg

When coming closer to the roman shard and tile scatter the finds improved.
Roman pottery
31461069cg.jpg

This one was *****y, muddy as it was i was thinking silver hair pin...
31461844ei.jpg

Cup weight, buckle, medieval swivel mount, bronze mount of some sort.
31461077yo.jpg

Finds became serious when this figurine turned up..
31461062ws.jpg

We had a couple bronzes nearly one in every row, all the bigger value, Sestercii, As but all toast due to the soil conditions there.
I told my buddy were on the track to silver and i was rewarded with a Denarius of Titus. In the field i was thinking Nero but it turned out even better!
Titus, as Augustus, AR Denarius. June-July 79 AD.
IMP T CAESAR VESPASIANVS AVG, laureate head right
TR POT VIII COS VII, Jewish captive kneeling right in front of trophy of arms.

A coin minted only two months almost 2000 years ago....not many still around.

The Votive Figurine is a bearded man, wearing sandals otherwise naked, carrying a sack(?) on his shoulders. :hello2:
This find makes me thinking of a sanctuary in the area, it's with the crudely made rear not made for display, more like an offer to the gods.

Hi Lu. That looks like it will turn out to be a great site. Just knew you'd come up with some silver. That looks like a fine coin. Could the silver "hair pin" be a needle for an iv rig? The end looks hollow and angled. The figurine could be an angel with wings instead of a sack. Never saw an angel wearing sandals. Good luck.

Nice Denarius bud. That’s a rare coin and an interesting period of the Roman Empire. I don’t think many know how frequently they went through emperors around that time. Poor Titus, “I’ve made but one mistake”

Honestly I knew this land would pay off for you & what a start you had!

Beat us the the first Roman silver of the year & got a banner find votive offering. Can't ask for much more, my vote is in, but I'm pretty sure most will not get the significance of this possibly once in a lifetime find.:occasion14:

I'm on the wrong side of the great pond. Amazing finds. As Crusader stated most will not realize the significance of your discovery. Huge Congrats you got my vote.

I'm working on a set of these weights for years, it will never work. Seems the mid to small sized cups were lost way more often...

Hi Tim, it's a screw on injection needle for a glass syringe.

Not sure about the meaning of the figurine. Definite not an angel. That crossed my mind too because i couldn't belive first it was the real thing. These votive figurines are so hard to come by...

Thank you!
A Denarius minted in low quantities of a 2 year emperor, same year as the Vesuv buried Pompeij in great condition is a top piece of everyones collection. I'm really happy with that one. The history behind some coins is sometimes amazing.

Cru, you told it from the beginning. I don't know where you have your informations from.... Sometimes you scare me a bit. :laughing9:
Yes, a really good start and if the site turns out to be what i think we will get many more finds. What came from barely 6 hrs detecting in bad conditions is stunning.
Thanks for your vote!

PS. with a site like this I would expect a high Silver ratio.

Really hope so! :icon_thumright:

The bronze finial is often referred to as a furniture piece.

Cru'dad thinks the statue looks like cupid, I not that convinced, its not cupids normal figural stance. Although it does look child like. Many water gods are depicted in a reclining form, so might be a connection there?

Man, those are two awesome finds! A roman figurine is such a rare find and it is still pretty well preserved!
But you know the coin is my favourite! Such a rare denarius in a great condition! In 61 years this coin will have it's 2000th birthday and look how beautiful it still is. A rare piece of history, my banner vote is in! Congrats°
