My wife and I got our first gold on the South Fork of the Nooksack today. It's not much, but we only ran about 1 five gallon bucket of gravel classified to 1/8 and run through a Angus Mackirk Foreman sluice. I had trouble getting the sluice to run right so there was a lot of time wasted, so I'm pretty happy with what we got, and yes I did the happy gold dance, which wasted more time. The gold looks bigger in person! IMG_0269.JPG

My wife and I couldn't think of a better way to celebrate the first day of summer than to head out to the river. We have had a busy last 12 months and hopefully we will be doing a lot more of this in the coming year.

Couldn't quite hit it full time, but we've pulled over 2/3 of an ounce out of that one gravel bar over the last year and a half. 21.5 grams.

I forgot that the Everett watershed and PUD will lock the gates to the sultan for the holiday so I will hit the railroad bridge bar on the Sky
River's a little high there right now, but I imagine you know your way around that place!

Thats great, I should be able to run a sluice and besides the best gold is higher on that bench
Nice catch of gold that's accumulating for you.

Thanks for the pictures, and it's nice you're having fun chasing that gold!

All the best,

Lanny

Wife and I made our only trip this year to Canyon Creek near Ross lake, this past week. The hike in has always been strenuous but trees down on a 45+ degree slope from storms made it even more sketchy. We actually had to rope down/up the last 20 feet to creek level after crawling over and under numerous tree trunks. Lol, I've got a keeper for a wife! :goldtrophy:

Anyway, we made the trip twice and the goal was to dig deep and find pickers/nuggets since we have done pretty well with fine flour. I brought a 4 ft pry bar and set out to dig deep. We found decent color from the very start and I was able to get about 3 feet deep before finding big boulders that I could not move no matter what I did. I scraped out as much gravel sitting on the bottom as I could but finally gave up going deeper. We enlarged the hole in the top foot and ended up with .44 grams of chunky gold, but no pickers or nuggets. :BangHead: I tried RTR, I really tried! I need to bring a team of dudes in with me next time I guess. Beautiful scenery and quality time with my wife! Not sure if I'll be able to talk her into this next year, lol.

A couple of fall mining days and my wife and I passed another milestone. 1.5 ounces! Never in my wildest dreams did I think we would dig this much gold out of the ground in Western Washington. Time to melt another bar I think.

My wife and I were able to get out one more time before cold and snow hit Western WA. We found a decent spot and picked up a nice half gram of flour!
