Back in Switzerland and just been to my latest spot again. Worked my way along and down the side of a large boulder which has been acting as a riffle.

Found more mercury but kept most of it separate (of interest is that this is almost certainly naturally occuring for those who doubt whether mercury does naturally occur ;) )

Slightly upstream from last week and just a half day. For some reason it just didnt feel right today even though the gold was coming. Isnt it amazing how its as much psychological as it is physical when it comes to having a great day.

Got my mojo back today... felt great as it all came together. Starting to feel really good about working a spot thoroughly... lots more trips there to come yet though.

It was such a lovely day I couldn't resist spending an afternoon at an old favourite location, and I wasn't disappointed [emoji3][emoji3][emoji3]

Are the silver flakes electrum, mercury coated gold, or bits of quartz hanging on? Also every once in awhile I see a red bit. Is that some iron compound?

I've been finding a fair bit of mercury recently but in the last picture above I think the silvery bits are magnetite and/or haematite. For sure the heavy sands are full of iron based stuff... its great fun seeing it all stick to the magnet when I clean up. There are probably other base minerals in the mix but I always forget the names [emoji51]

End of 2017 Clean up

Got me one of them Gold Miner Spiral Machines.... I've saved all the pay from all my trips this year and have worked them all through today.

Thumbs up for the Spiral! Saved me hours.

The result? More than doubled last years amount :)

Gold Prospecting

Packed up my rucksack and pan and headed to a new stretch of river. Spent the day prospecting and found a couple of spots which I can only describe as ‘high potential’... always good to get some new locations in the pipeline 🙂

Also found some good new functionality on my phone to mark up the prospects 🙂

nice gold. I've got a friend in Switzerland Always trying to get me to come over and visit...actually dug gold just below Close to Annecy, and it was quite decent. Have you Heard about big nuggets in Rhein?

There are a lot of people talking about big stuff all over switzerland... many ‘mini rushes’... I tend to focus on the reliable sources.
