They resemble tool crib tags, but that's just a guess. Monty

Yeah, looks like an I.D. tag could have been used for many purposes. In this neck of the woods, each of the old timey miners got a ring of tags, all with the same number on them. They hung one tag on the peg board outside the mine on their way in, this way they could keep track of who was in there, and when they came out, they took their tag off. When they were in the mine, picking, shoveling and loading coal into cars, when the car was ready to be pulled, they hung one of their number tags on the car so the weighmaster could give them credit for what they dug.
Just a little SW PA history on why sometimes you dig a ring of tags around here all with the same number on them. Cool finds! I really like that one with the rooster on it too.
