Way too much rain around here lately, but it does have a benefit. The ground is really saturated, so the coins were popping today. Went to a park that's given up a Merc and a couple of silver Rosies over the years. Dug a total of 63 coins in less than two hours for a total of $4.90. Best finds were a 1941 Washington quarter and a 1957 South Africa coin. The silver Washington rang up as a 92, so I was thinking it was a honking ring. I was really surprised to pull out a silver coin, since I haven't found one there in 2 1/2 years! Never give up on a spot that produces silver coins, I guess...

Which one is the big silver?

The 1941 Washington. Any silver bigger than a dime is big silver in my book. Not counting war nickels, though.

So very true, the ground out here is so bone dry, hard to detect anything more then say three or four inches, and then to chip through it.....of course be careful of what you wish for, seems the East coast is somewhat more then moist. Careful out there fella's.

Congrats on all of your clad, and the silver Washington. The wet ground does have its advantages.

Big silver makes my day. A pile of clad doesn’t hurt either.

Thanks, guys! Went back today and got 38 more coins and a nice Sterling silver ring. Only found $2.41 in clad, though (4 quarters, 9 dimes, 4 nickels and 21 pennies).

Nice find FBT! I'm surprised it rang up with such a high VDI. I wonder if that had anything to do with the super wet ground. I love getting out to do some detecting after a big rain. I always seem to hit on more and deeper targets.

It was probably a combination of the wet ground and the fact that it was lying perfectly flat in the hole. I'm just amazed that I didn't find it years ago. I've done this spot at least 10 times in all sorts of weather. Sometimes you get lucky and the conditions are just right. Hated to leave that day, but I was beat after digging 75 holes (63 coins and 12 pieces of trash)!
