Hey everyone new permission late 1700’s home with the original family having come from Scotland. Within the first few minutes a silver ring marked Scotland! Also has what appears to be a MG in a circle , thought it was DW but believe I had it upside down based on the others symbols, Fancy A , castle and lion? No sterling or 925 mark. Any help with the maker and maybe a date range greatly appreciated this will be going back to the family . Thanks again

Cool ring, but not terribly old I'm afraid.

That’s an Edinburgh hallmark with the date letter style ‘A’ for 1975. British hallmarks don’t require a “sterling” or “925” stamp, although the maker can add them for hallmarked pieces if he so wishes. The lion rampant with the Edinburgh castle are themselves the official guarantee for that piece being sterling.

'Modern' silver isn’t really my thing, but the maker mark looks like that of Malcolm Gray, trading as “Ortak Silvercraft” from Kirkwall, Orkney until about 1990.
