I made it out 3 times this week so far and had some luck. The first trip was on campus. I spent 4 hours finishing a ball field. It was not a great hunt but I did manage to find 23 coins with a face value of $1.22, a small jewelry piece, a pistol ball and a screw in cleat.

The round ball might be civil war, but might just be from the old farm. It is slightly mashed so it is difficult to tell the exact caliber, but my best guess is .36 caliber.

Next I went back to camp to work on the smaller site. All of these sites I am detecting have been done by me before since 2014 when I first got permission to detect here. The first trips there were so many coin signals I moved faster and only dug the high tone signals as well as the bell tone tent peg signals. Now I am going slowly and digging all mid and high tones. So I am cleaning up all the new losses and all the things I missed the first time. The results have been very good.

In 6 hours swingin the CZ21 I found 209 coins with a face value of $16.41, 74 camp tent pegs, 2 blank pistol cartridges with the Lake City head stamp from 1982, lots of sinkers, an older style Boy Scout neckerchief slide, a rope tensioner, a Webelos Handyman pin, a Scotty dog game piece from Monopoly, a hat pin back, and a knife.

The knife needs a little clean up, but it is usable. It has a Remington trade mark on it. I looked it up and it is a vintage Remington UMC USA R5 lock back knife.

The next trip to camp finished this site. Things started off really slow, but in the last 2 hours the targets came fast and furious. In 7 hours I found 269 coins with a face value of $21.18, 88 camp tent pegs, lots more sinkers, a wing nut from a scout mess kit, fishing stuff, 3 hat pin backs, a rope tensioner, a rubber jewelry ring (an eyeball find with a nice pattern on it) a brass end from a bolo tie, a yin yang item, 2 scout knife medallions, a mystery brass screw end from something, a leather work stamp tool and a stainless steel chain. Of course I still do dig lots of melted aluminum from the camp fires, a few tabs and other miscellaneous junk that I donโ€™t list of photograph.

The medallions are part of the handle and identify the knives as official scout equipment. The one on the left is a newer style and the one on the right is much older.

The yin yang symbol is very small. When I took a closer look I noticed it had a hole in the back where it had a post and it is marked 925. So it is part of a tiny silver earring. Unfortunately I did not find the post or the earring back. Silver and gold are not very common finds at the camp. The campers leave the good stuff home when they come for their week at camp. This is very tiny, but silver is silver right?

Every camp site is different in size and frequency of use. The first large site took 35 hours, with 1,303 coins, with a face value of $100.50 and 412 camp pegs. The second smaller site took 21.5 hours, with 742 coins with a face value of $57.84 and 284 pegs. There are 36 sites in this camp so there is a lot left to find. With the knives, slides and other goodies there will be a lot more fun detecting trips.

So more social distancing, fresh air fun, lots of gas money and a teny tiny silver. Thanks for looking, stay safe and may your coil lead you to good things.

Nice clean-out work and follow-up on those sites - Boy scout camps are always very good and "keeps on giving" with tent pegs being an excellent "clue" for finding lost coins. The early camps dated before 1964 are GREAT for finding SILVER - THANKS for sharing..........BILL

You are right about the pegs being a good clue. This camp didnโ€™t open until 1980 so unfortunately very little silver coinage. There are a few from he farm that was there originally, but they are few and far between. Thanks for the reply, stay safe and keep swingin.

That's a lot of tent pegs, no wonder the Scouts are always in a financial dire. Well done on the digging and payoff, sounds like there will be a few more return trips. Gardners would love those pegs for staking purposes.

Thanks pepperj. The gardeners wonโ€™t get the pegs. I return them to camp, actually leave them there, so they can reuse them and reloose them for me to find again. Iโ€™m sure some of the ones I have found this year are ones I found and returned in a prior year. Stay safe and keep swingin.
