We found an old farm that we haven't done in years with lots of ploughed fields. The first thing we did is check with the owner if he is happy with us to continue hunting the land. After a couple of bites from his German sheppard he let us carry on. Problem is, that this land was never any good. In fact a famous 17th C writer was quoted as saying the Village was a 'God forsaken place'.
However, when we have no options (the grass is now rock solid), its better to dig your heels in & try.

After 30 minutes on 1 field with just 1 button between us we moved to a nearby one where an allottment used to be (1 hour hunt):

COTY Paris Compact - broken mirror & some foundation present.
Lead Horse
Buttons
My fav find - Glass stopper - found by me on the walk back to the car.

Its the pewter screw lid & cap to a corked medicine bottle, circa 1890-1910.

Congrats on American makeup :hello2: did you check for coins inside?
Those tin/pewter caps can be quite ornate, I call them crown caps.
Have some of the holed items in the Coty/doorknob pic, any idea what they are?
That 17th C quote sounds familiar. Best wishes & HH

Of course I open it & hope for a gold coin, but as quoted, its a broken mirror & foundation cream.

I have a few that are crown shaped tops.

No idea on the holed item, any thoughts?

If you know the quote, keep quiet.

I've found a few that are full rounds like yours and some partials/ (not broken)
Rivet type thing in center rotates freely on all... I'll try to put a group together and 'whatsit' them,
Apologies for being one of those people who don't read the entire post then ask silly questions :BangHead:

At least you had a barrel to scrape. I'm having colonial withdrawals big time, and I still have at least 3 months to wait. I may not survive.

Why don't you enlighten us Cru. Who was the famous 17th century writer casting aspersions on your village?

Dads thoughts:

'That disc with the holes in (from our last set of finds) is an inner part of an old Minced Meat making machine where you could change the wheels for difference size of finished mince meat within the body of the hand turned and mounted mincing machine. Nan had one which we might even still have somewhere?! You feed the whole meat pieces in and the turning & cutting screw forces the meat through the holes into the catch tray.'

With the heat wave we are having, grass will not be an option at all. Therefore we are in the same boat, although we only have about 1 month to harvest time.
