Sewing Awl 5 to 7000 year old

Found this piece of copper at a canoe landing on the pigeon river which is still used by the native Americans in the area to collect wild rice.
I was told it is a sewing awl used by the indigenous people here in the great lakes area and that the copper period was 5 to 7000 years ago.
If thats true then i am the first person to hold this in my hand in approx 5000 years. Wow

oh and at another site i found a 1910 and a 1925 wheat leaf in the same hole.

Maybe an awl. Not very pointy though. I'd guess it's more likely to be a flintknapping tool. A pressure flaker. As with many Indian tools, it could have been used for both. Gary
