Hey all,

No vid this time. Did a short hunt today and picked up lots of nice pottery and DiggerGirl got a butt plate from a musket, a mysterious item made from bone (toothbrush handle?), we both got marbles, etc. I stumbled on a ring that gave me a nice shock when I dug it. Unfortunately it's costume, but I like it. :)

I squeaked out a silver quarter but it was a Washington (1943). Oh well, still very satisfying to get out, and I'll just have to keep scouting for the next old site to dig.

Although the pottery we collected was old, the site had apparently been hit before by someone else. I did get a flat button and a thimble though and she got the butt plate and an old pewter spoon. Just not really worth a big time investment from my team and I--so this one goes to the backup site list.

Still a good day! It's not every day you can find a R 10 token or a very scarce countermarked Spanish silver. About every other day for you it seems, though. I see a French gold coin in your very near future though!

Gold coin is close to the top of my list, colonial or not--as would be a Washington Arillery, "L" belt plate, or Louisiana pelican plate. Also up there would be a Luisiana button, or Canarios Islanders related relic.

Great scouting trip, Buck. How old is some of that pottery? It looks 18th century. I like to see you displaying your finds. :)

Nice job. The rain is keeping the ground soft down there for you?

Kirk

It is 18th century mochaware, scalloped feathered edge, and hand painted creamware. Good eye!

Rain hasn't been that bad, but will be turning it into a mudhole again soon.

It's mainly a matter of time investment. Why not dig the best sites possible, and let the newer ones go unless there's not an older one to be had. BUT--if there's enough newer stuff in quantity then we are happy to dig newer coins. With over 40,000 acres of combined permissions all across Louisiana for my team and I, we have a lot of land to cover.

Only 40,000 acres? Oh man, you guys must be sweating running out of ground to hunt! DG did pretty darned well with her butt plate I'd say.

We have ground to hunt, but finding sites in that many different properties in different places is tough, when every bit of ground is flat as a pancake down here.

It was. But it was not loaded with 18th century finds. Which is why I strongly suspect it was hunted before.

It's a head scratcher sometimes when a site has lots of signs as in glass or iron and doesn't produce much. Still you didn't go empty handed and the next turn of the soils might refresh the finds once agin.
