Have come across this painting after helping clean out older couples home. This is a 24”x36” oil painting. The artist is ben richmond signed nautical themed painting. I can find other nautical paintings with jut one ship not with 2nd. Any help would be amazing. Like age of it Or if it’s with anything. Thanks Donny

The one thing that stands out is the signature of the artist.
The long tail off the end isn't shown on any online painting sold/for sale
So is it authentic would be the first question.
Framing done in Taiwan is another ?

Welcome to Tnet.

The signature does actually match to other works signed “Ben Richmond”. This one, for example, titled “Ship in the Night”:

richmond.jpg

Assuming there are not two artists with the same name (or one notable artist plus an impostor) Ben Richmond was a very prolific artist during the second half of the 1900s to early 2000s. He painted numerous nautical and ‘old ship’ works with variations on a theme, so you may not find your exact work depicted on the net. Similar works of that size seem to be available from art dealers at prices between about $250 - $500, with prints at commensurately lower prices.

Ben originally sold his works from the “Richmond Gallery” in Marblehead, Ohio until his retirement in 2012 and now lives in Maine.

I wouldn’t be concerned about the use of stretchers or framing materials from Taiwan. Perfectly satisfactory quality for ‘commercial’ gallery sale.

I would like to see a close up of the painting.
Mass production piece?
Original?
Signature on examples are different.
Same name different artist?

250.00-500.00 bucks would help out an old couple very much.Nice of you to do this for them.
Yes, that is what I was thinking. If the money is going to an older couple, I likely would make an offer on it. I like to help the elderly. Hell, I are one.

I hope you are not going to try and out bid me if it is for sale. I think crash is already thinking about doing that.
I have so many paintings & prints there isn't enough wall space anymore and we have to rotate them....I'm a sucker for antique maps.

But, I would add this one to the rotation. 8-)

As a painter I can say that the shading on the sales was clearly done by an amature. No, I don't think the sign is really from the artist in question. The d at the end is actually pretty different. Why would your second painting show cracking in the paint and not in your first if it was painted in roughly the same time period with the exact same paints? Sorry I think it is a fake. Look at the signature on this possible original.

There are dozens of single ship images for sale as real BR's work. I just don't think any research was done at all before the thread was started.

You should share some of your paintings in a post.
