Silver M Oval Battlefield find

Back in Western Maryland at Cavalry battlefield site. Tried a different spot and found this Silver oval engraved Mc item. Found 8-69 cal roundballs nearby as well as hook item maybe sword hanger? Also 44 cal colt pistol bullet and some high impact bullets.
Took the Silver item to jeweler and they confirmed its silver and polished it up to clean off black color.
Researched some of the rosters of soldiers involved and numerous soldiers had Mc last names!

I suspect the Silver item is a broken Cuff-link & pre-dates the CW. Cool piece.
