I had no intentions of posting this, I know it's a ring. But as I've been looking at it and considering the place I found it, I'm curious if anyone else has come across something similar.
I found this in an early 1800's home-site. We found an early 19th century Half Cent, Dime and a late 18th century 2 Reales in the same place. It's a detectorists dream, there absolutely no aluminum at all. Plenty of square nails but no aluminum caps or junk. This hit hard on my CTX, rang up like a half-dollar. About 8 inches down it's been waiting for someone to find. It came out close to what it looks like now, I did use some polish on it.
What's interesting, at least to me, is that it's a simple ring but it was sized. I had it under the microscope looking for markings and there's none but I saw a soldered joint. Judging by the hit it's at least Stirling. It looks like it was once round with no "Fancy" but someone tried to spice it up a little by using what looks like a file to make grooves. And, it has a somewhat sculpted inside.
