Today I went to sell some scrap I had been accumulating and on my way home I stopped at a GW I have had luck at before. In among a rack of pot & pan lids I found this beauty. It weighs 2.5 lbs and that is a women's size 8 sandal for size reference. The maker is L. Maciel, a Mexican silversmith. I can't seem to wipe this grin off of my face :laughing7:

Great pick !
The Maciel Silver Factory was based in Mexico City, Mexico, from 1930 until 1970, at No 6 Sadi Carnot. The company manufactured high quality silver hollow-ware and a limited line of flat-ware along with some jewelry which consisted of mostly cuff bracelets.

Every thrift store around here has one or two of trays in that style but some other metal or silver plated. I stopped checking them a while ago. I guess I'll be checking again. Great find!

Awesome find!

Same here. Over the years I have scrapped many meat serving platters with "gravy trees" like this one. Almost all of them were silver plated copper. A few were aluminum, a few may have been brass and I think there are some newer ones that are steel.

I have never seen a sterling one until today. There are a couple listed on eBay. Apparently they are as rare as our experience confirms.
