Small lead object, chimes in at 58-61 on the AT Pro, US marking on one side, and possible marking on other side. I'm new at using a caliper, i believe the diameter is .555 or .565, There appears to be a piece of wire or something in it. also, it has a brown coating on it. I have also found other late 1800's and early 1900's artifacts around this area. Thanks for looking! Jobrian

I think it is definitely a lead seal. Could have been used for many things. Will take some of our guru's on ID's to confirm if it is military and possibly give more insight as to what it may have been used for. Just got your PM and sorry I couldn't nail it down for ya.:dontknow:

It's a lead ordnance seal (flaming bomb insignia) it may have been used as a safety device on a bomb fuse or to seal a munitions crate after inspection. Similar seals are still used in the military today as safety devices, to show an inspection has been performed or to indicate tampering. Nowadays they have US on one side and unique number or symbol on the other to indicate who installed it.
