Looking over the maps and doing some measuring. I figured that there was another possibility on a permission.
So after a tilling up the gardens it was time to get a bit of playtime in.
Not a heavily targeted site for finds, but it was for glass, and pipe stems. For the 1/3 acre spead and the amount of eyeball finds it was fun filled couple of hrs.
First target was what looks like a whizzer?
(Seems like a curse as it has happened twice before, first and last good target)

The next hour was nails, iron, one piece of lead. I started to work down the slope
and got a nice sounding 95.

Just broke the soil and it appeared. I could see by the stars and size I had a good one!
Now it needs a like soaking to take off the crust, but no less it was an easy retrieval.

Then another hour before I got the candle snuffer end.

So an ok little scratch the itch from a new site.
First time I've gotten a grey pipe stem.
There's the open pontil ends again. Teasers they are!

Thanks for looking, and best of luck to you all on the next dig.

Nice hunt. Seated coins are great, and those half dimes are a tough find. Congrats!
Thanks lenmac
They are a rarity up here, kind of like finding our Fishscales in the fields, hard little silvers to find.
Old parks in the big city was better-28 in one season

Congrats on the half dime. Somehow I have never found a seated half dime :dontknow:
do you cherry pick silver? The half dime comes in as a pretty low signal for silver. I find some people miss them not only because they are so darned small, but they also give a id that most don't identify as silver usually.

Also well done on the half dime! love when those suckers pop up. they are so small it makes you wonder how they didn't lose every single one of em
Thanks Tpmetal
Here's a comparison on the silvers (very close )
Canadian 5 cent 92.5% silver, 7.5% copper; Weight: 1.16 gram; Diameter : 15.5 mm;
USA Half Dime .900 silver, 10% copper: Weight: 1.24 grams; Diameter: 15.5 mm

It came in being a high # and tone.
Though it being on the surface would be the difference
Though I have dug fishscales at depth and they've always produced a high tone also and #

I have been lucky enough to dig several of both seated half dimes and fish scales since I live in western ny. Also lucky enough to get one capped bust half dime as well. They all rang up just under a penny on my machines. I believe it is mostly due to size they ring up so low? either way my mind is always blown that those tiny things ever get found. You either got to be very lucky or a decent detectorist to find one of these suckers.

Nice find! Those half dimes are difficult to find. I'm a non-smoker but I do love the smoking sections.

I named it that from all the stems in such a small area.
I might find a single one occasionally on a bare ground site.

Considering all the tiny buttons, cufflinks, and bucky balls I find on my old sites, if there was a half dime there I would find it, unless it was too deep. I have found 25 half cents, countless large cents and flat buttons, so I am hunting the types of sites where they should be.

I'm at 69 pieces now that I have gathered up out of storage over the winter. Probably there's a few more lurking in a pouch dump/or squirreled away still.

Oh I will be spending some more time at this site.
Being under 5 miles away it's an easy go.

That's quite a few small silvers. Looks like you've been to the UK as well.
I think my lack of half dimes is related to my lack of seated coinage. While I have found 74 Spanish silvers, including 34 half reals, and hundreds of other US coins that were circulating at the same time as seated US silver, all I have to show for it is 4 seated dimes in 37 years :icon_scratch::dontknow:

Well done!
