Got a pretty good dumping of snow last night, and along with that
the river turns what I call "Snow Green". It's a deep emerald green,
and as long as it stays cold the water will become super clear.

Shot this from the back deck..

While not as chilly as it is at Cariboo's house, we've had a few nights
in single digits so I had to come up with a way to keep the hummingbird
feeder from freezing up.

Best idea I could come up with, and the hummingbirds don't seem to mind
the light at all. They much prefer it to pecking at frozen groceries..8-)

Nice pictures Dizzy. Looks like a good spot for fishing & all you have to do is step out your back door.

Don't fish as much as I used to, but we get five runs of salmon every
year, and one of the best holes on the river is in my backyard. 8-)

Sadly, our salmon runs have dropped off considerably in the last ten
years, most of which is due to over-fishing by tribal and commercial
netters.

Had to go out at daylight this morning and reposition the light. Last night we had temps in around 20F., and the nectar was still freezing in the
neck of the bottle.

Look up Concrete, Washington on Google maps..population around 800,
right at the base of the North Cascades.

Great pictures! Thanks! We got about 14" to 16" of snow in the last two or three days here in the Grande Ronde Valley of northeastern Oregon. Temperature at 12:15 pm PST it about 11F. Supposed to stay low for the next few days!

Thank you for sharing this beautiful picture
Sure would make for a nice post card and perhaps add a few for a year’s calendar

I've actually sold a number of prints on that last image. I had it
printed on canvas (I believe it's 24x30), then matted and framed
and a print is now hanging on my wall. It's also been in a couple of
calender's made by the local TV stations.

I had to wait for just the right light, then shot 5 frames that were blended together, and then processed from the combined RAW image. Waited almost half an hour for the Sun to peek through just enough to light up the hillside.

Great pictures.
Having hummingbirds at this time of the year would be so cool, great idea with the light.
Kind of miss the Cascades when I see a photo like that one.

These are known as "Anna's Hummingbirds", and they are the only
species to winter here. We do get several other varieties in the Spring
and Summer, but the Anna's are tough critters and hang out all year.

As for the Cascades, you wouldn't miss 'em today. After two weeks of
sub-freezing temps it finally got up to 34F. today, and along with it was rainy drizzle. That just compacted it all into 8" of half-frozen slippery white stuff.

Lucky for me, my neighbor came over with his skid-steer and plowed
my driveway on Sat...:icon_thumright:
