Found this little thing stashed away while cleaning my grandmas house. Maybe it had just been a keepsake but was curious because it was nicely put away. It doesn't look all that exciting but shine light through it and you get this vibrant pink. I don't think it's amethyst as far too pink.

Perhaps, it may go unsolved on here as I know some stuff is hard to tell without the actually specimen in hand.

yeah you would need to do the usual steps to test a mineral. hardness, luster, streak, and so on

I may just take it in to my jeweler as I know next to nothing about minerals and such

Amathyst has many different shades. Not saying for sure amathyst but colors vary greatly. Compares yours to this chart.

Could be. Would be my guess. Wonder where they got it?
No idea. Just going to take it to my jeweler. I have a bunch of metal detecting finds ro show him anyways as the guy likes to see the stuff I find. Gives me something to do I guess

Please let us know what he has to say. And thanks for sharing with us.
I shall I doubt it's anything exciting I'm guessing more of a keep sake. Probably too small to cut if it is anything anyways

Hard to tell, but looks like some fracture lines through it so cutting might be difficult. Besides, if me I would leave as is. That is the way your grandma looked at it and treasured it.

Hard to tell from the photos, but it might be pink tourmaline. If so, then it would be valuable. Really hot pink examples of tourmaline go for thousands a gram.

I'm betting it's probably a keepsake but I shall see. Eventually I'll get it to my jeweler

My first guess is cut glass as it is such a clear unnatural gem color. Or it could really be some sort of artificially made ruby as I have seen some near that shade before in a jewelry store
