some sort of tag from NC

we just back from vacation in nc, i didnt have much time to detect, but i managed to get out, i was walking through the forest and found this field, i didnt find much except for this tag thingy, a button or dresser knob, and a old u shaped iron handle. my first impression was a telephone marker but there were no poles for miles (seriously) it also has 2 holes bore into it besides the one that attaches it to the wire. has anyone seen a similar one with the same shape? area dates to the mid 1700's

Looks to me like a bucket handle.Another 'tag' goes on the other side of the bucket.
