Hi,
Thought someone might enlighten me.
I was walking the beach today here in Rhode Island and came across what appeared to be a fragment of a very old ships plank.
It was about 2" thick and had multiple bronze nails in it - some with round heads and some square heads. I was able to remove one see pic. It was sheared off at the back of the plank it appears to be tapered and hand wrought. Any thoughts? Thanks!

Looks like a ship spike to me....does a magnet stick to it...if not, it is probably bronze or brass although iron spikes were used above the water line. The round heads you see are most likely square that was beaten in and rounded off by doing so, especially if it started out with a rose head.

Thank you all for your gracious welcome to the forum!
I failed to mention that this find was on a beach in Watch Hill, Rhode Island which has had at least 30 wrecks on a nearby reef in the past 200 years.
I messaged a local guy who discovered one of these wrecks back in 2013 (USS Revenge captained by Oliver Perry) about my find; but he has not responded to date.
I guess time will tell.

Welcome to the forum 😊😊 I can’t wait to see what they say it may be from. Cool find regardless.
