Howdy T-netters! It's Labor Day, but more like Christmas came early! My son even got into the act and whipped my a$$ on the oldest coin of the hunt....1600 4 Maravedis. Add to that a 1637 1 reale/pistareen. A personal best for him in his young treasure hunting career. Hopefully he starts an account tonight. I haven't had these kind of finds or lucky since last year, or better yet when I found my 1 reale 1600s cob in the silver bezel at the beach.

Spaniards were there as far back as the 1600s and the town wasn't established until the early 1800s. So, research paid off.....again! I even knew which area I should pay most attention to and get that permission. Easily done since it was city property. As long as I covered my holes it was fine. Not gonna yap too much, since there's many pics. Made five segments of videos, but not able to post....on again. Droids are stupid. Enjoy the pics! HH!

*****A PERSONAL BEST DAY*****
Oldest gold (1759). 6th gold all time.
First pistareen(s).
First 4 reale.
Oldest ever silver (1627).
Oldest copper (1618).
2 rings in one day.
First cut silver (1686).

If I thought I could be a professional treasure hunter and take care of the family, I would quit my job. Problem is I want to hoard all of it!

Yeah, but the question is, which ones to vote for?

I mean the 1/2 escudo is a no-brainer, but that assortment of silver as a lot is worthy. And I love the coin weight. That still leaves a great copper and pair of rings. Spectacular hunt!

Was there any junk, or relics, or just pure old coinage? Any in-situ's?

Most people will never dig a single one of those beauties, so including the aforementioned will give us a hunt we can all relate to. How about more of the story?

I eagerly await.

Cheers

I get an image of the old Wendys commercial and the elderly woman "where's the dirt?".

Probably running that whites in C&J mode. Coin and Jewelry. Which would explain such finds.

Ever been to North Florida? Can't speak for deeper south Florida, but the soil has a sandy texture. Not too sticky to the coins.....except coppers. There is still crud embedded to a few of the silvers that won't come off. That is direct result of being proximal to the oak trees. They secrete something that does a number on coins. The coin with the least effect was the 4 reale. It was near the escudo and kind of out in the open.....no trees. Just dirt, old shells, foliage. My son spent time cleaning these coins (silvers only) on the way home. Mostly just water.....and light rubbing with a cloth. Mind still blown about the 4 reale. The two bronze coins, the coin weight, and the rings got an olive oil bath when we got home. Still hard to make a lot of detail on those two coins.....some corrosion. When I find coins, I always try to clean before I post. Don't have time to do before and afters.....three teenagers and full time job. Sorry folks!
