Greetings Swinging , sweating, dirt fishers.
I spent a couple of hot afternoons hunting a new spot in a new field.
The house showed on an 1870 platt map but not on one from 1892.
It took me a couple of tries and about two hours to find the iron pattern but it was well worth the effort.
When I found the 1820 2 real I fist thought it was a token. I brushed it off and saw the date and design.
Man what a rush---I never expected to find old Spanish silver here in Illinois.
The CW Eagle button, Indian heads, and Flat button were icing on the cake.
Thanks for looking and best luck to all, Merf

In your last picture, it appears that you have another civil war relic, the hook looks to be a sword hanger. nice finds

Congrats on the silver! The only ones we see on the East Coast are 18th century, I have not seen many 19th century ones tho. Very nice find!

We were having a two-hour metal datecting seminar at Colonial Silver Zeus' house later today. I forgot to logout, Zeus. :D

Now, here is the real Colonial Zoyboy's response to the Merfman:

"WAAAAAAAHOOOOOOOOOOO, the Merfman strikes an 1820 Spanish two reales...and it is in great shape to boot. Merf, your never-ending search for the suuuuuuuper oldies shows in the recoveries that you post for this great forum to view. Your skills are incredible, buddy!

Now, get out there and find another one!!!!!! :icon_sunny:"
