Spanish silver

Was able to get out to do some swinging toady and was rewarded with a few good finds..i about crapped my pants when the spanish reale popped out of the ground ..also found a 1916 wheat and a few buttons..I'm guessing the eagle A button is from the civil war time frame??

Incredible finds, seems like a lifetime since I’ve dug my last Spanish silver. Great digs, many more things to be found there.

Very nice 2 Reale. Most reales that I’ve ever found were rubbed all but smooth.

Great find... I have to ask... did you wipe off the 2R when you found it ?
It appears to have light sand scratches across it.
IF you did ... this is why i tell people not to do this... i say this because the lines are indicative of this.

Your coin is in still in great condition... and is rare in this condition and commands a premium...
and without those scratches would have been worth a 10 times more without them.
Your coin is a mint state coin... and could have ranked super high without them.
Don't fret though... its still up there... just lower on the scale due to it.

IF you did not cause these... then ?
At some point someone did... OR... cleaned it improperly.
Which is the worst thing one can do... especially to something like this.
This truly had the potential to be a super high dollar + coin.

Particularly for a dug coin.... its superb really... Crisp etc.
All features are there... there is some wear but for this coin i would call it a 60... Still an MS.
Remember ... these are prone to having wear in short time of minor circulation... not to mention the strikes were always ...um... subject to imperfectness to begin with.
It might... or would not grade this though... i cannot see everything from here so.

The "general rule of thumb" when calling a coins grade is as follows...

• Poor (MS-60 to MS-61) heavy marks and scratches over the entire surface
• Fair (MS-61 to MS-62) numerous marks and scratches but not so heavy and concentrated, maybe a few toned spots
• Average (MS-63 to MS-64) noticeable marks scattered across the surface of the coin but not as heavy nor deep or numerous hairline scratches
• Choice (MS-65 to MS-66) minimal marks that are scattered, none of them deep nor obtrusive
• Gem (MS-67 to MS-69) a few trivial marks that are shallow and not obtrusive when looking at the coin. Some may be only observable under magnification
• Gem Perfect (MS-70) no marks or imperfections are visible on the surface of the coin, even under magnification.
