✅ SOLVED Spring loaded what-is-it

Found this object on the surface near some old railroad tracks, I have no idea if it is old or not, and wasn't sure what search terms to use in Google. It is attached to a string, and the shaft extends out and seems to be spring loaded. No markings or lettering that I can see. Any ideas? Thanks!

... I think that is a type of wire tensioner. I can?t think of name but have a Animal control choke stick that uses a piece like that, repurposed from a clothes line tightener...
