✅ SOLVED Square brass object with eagle on face

Hello,I am hoping that one of you can help ID this small brass (?) object I found yesterday. It is about 1/2 inch tall, 3/8 inch wide and 1/8 inch thick. It shows a fairly heavy coat of blue green oxidation so I guess it is an alloy such as brass. The face seems to show a Federal eagle with outstretched wings with arrows in one claw and another object in the other claw. It seems to be incomplete as if it is part of some other larger piece. I am going to attempt to attach images of the face, back and each side. Thanks in advance for any assistance you folks can give!

Not sure on it's use. But the eagle is a design used from WW1 on. Cool find and hope it get's solved

My best guess would be the lock release button from something like an old file box, jewelry box, etc. (the two tabs on the back doing the releasing). I think the eagle may be patriotic rather than necessarily military in this case. I feel like I've held a piece of such a thing (without the eagle), and as a kid I do recall prying open these types of items, so that's my only basis for my guess.

Thanks guys. While not sure what it is exactly, I think the information from BigBobBow helps put the piece in a general time. The clasp, locket and ring ideas are all good.
