I think I did. The only reason I believe they were steel pennies is because they were part of a 7-8 wheaty spill. All rusted and corroded, and could not tell what they were.

Great post/question.
I have never "dug" one, although they are extremely common.
When released, most folks hoarded 'em. Obviously hoping for a future gain.
Last month, I noticed full uncirculated rolls selling for $15 or less on the bay.
Peace ✌

I have a few.. Never even thought about finding one via metal detector.. I need to go over it and see how it rings up.. I would guess like a nail..lol

Supreme observation Jackalope.
I just gave a quick air test on the Mighty ETrac, and barely got a reading? A modified A.Sabisch coin program was used. Strange?
Peace ✌

Not strange.. Just iron or steel :) We spend thousands of dollars trying to get machines thst discriminate out steel really well. Now put it in all metal mode and see what it rings.. Do that back to back with a nail!!

I've got several. Two or three that I 'detected' and dug.

Think about how much money is wasted due to us not making our coins from something more durable like silver. I guarantee that if people knew their coins were made if silver they wouldn't be so careless with them and they would have a much longer circulation life.

I found a bunch of 1943 cents when I was young. The ones I kept are now getting rusty despite my best efforts...
