I went out for 4 hours yesterday to a site I had been to before. Previously I had found this site to yield lots of jewelry, but I had seen a hint that it could hold some older items. As luck would have it, my hunch was correct as I explored new areas of the site.
My first good item found was the thimble, I always love finding them. I started gridding the area where I found it and got a choppy barely above iron signal that I decided to dig. As I lifted the plug I saw that familiar spot of green soil that told me a copper coin was in the hole. It turned out to be the awesome 1860 fatty IH. The reason for the choppy signal was in the plug, a rusted up cut square nail!!
After that I located the Eagle "I" button and the Anchor one. (is it Marine, Navy or just civilian?)
For another hour or so I would hit the random buttons with various amounts of gilt left on it. I really like the one that has the script back mark on it. I have never really seen that before.
I was really happy for the skeleton key, always favorite finds when ever I find them.
Lastly, maybe 40 minutes before I had to call it quits I was gridding this one area back and forth. I got a mid ranged signal that I figured was a pull tab or something. I was blown away when I started searching through the hole and I see a small little disc fall out and roll down into the hole. I took out a bottle of water I bring with me and did a quick field cleaning to reveal only my 2nd capped bust coin ever!! A capped bust half dime 1835!!!! Really excited!!
What a way to start the 2015 detecting season!! Enjoy the pics.
