Went to an old site from the 1830s today with my uncle. To start off the day, I FOUND MY BEST SPEAR POINT EVER!! You can see directly through the flint with the light using a patch of quartz in the middle. Later my Uncle found his best point ever that had been broken and then reworked on the tip. Next i got a pewter spoon that has a day of July 5th, 1839 etched on the back along with a name (S Stalfer). Then to close out the day I found a bunch of pieces of pottery in one hole and was able to glue them back together for part of a freaking Indian bowl!! Found these on a private farm in north Florida.

The title of your post was appropriate--it doesn't get any better than that! Congrats on a remarkable day in the field. I hope there is more to be found on that site.

Superb day for you! Putting that light behind the point was a very interesting thing to have done/shared! Being able to glue the pottery pieces back together was another interesting effort first to take the time to test the pieces for a fit and then to be able to see how the design work on the outside matches up! Thank you for sharing!..............63bkpkr

I've never seen a spear point like that, how old do you think it is?

I love how someone actually engraved a name and date into the spoon - I have never seen that. Helpful for dating the spoon, obviously, but really personalizes the item, which I think is fantastic. Congrats!

I believe the silver or pewter baby spoon was a gift and the inscription was the date of birth.

With the name inscribed as well you may be able to research its original owner.

those are some of the most pre-historic spear points I've ever seen. Awesome finds!
