Alrighty y’all, one more whatzit for the night. I have been detecting a local creek near my house and was told by an older member of the community that there was a union camp on the park grounds directly next to the creek bank. Dug this item out of the hard clay directly at the base of the eroding creek side. It looks almost like a pot of some sort, with what looks to be a place for a handle to be added. There is also a lip just inside of the opening of the item, where it looks like a lid or cover would have gone. Leaning more toward this being modern, but never know. Anybody have any ideas to get me pointed in the right direction? Thanks everybody in advance.

The nickel ref. kind of helps for sizing. Though a tape measure does the trick for easy calculation as this.
I'm thinking some type of cast pot/cauldron that a handle/hanger would of attached to the knob that is on the side.
