Got to go for a day dig with my Nephew.
Very different dig for us.
We never find any hardstone but we got a hammer stone right next to it a big piece of chert. There is no large hard stone material so it was carried in. The site is all sand no rocks.
As you will see most of this find was not typical material.
We also found Rhyolite flakes which we have never found down here, will post more pictures when I get the chance to clean the material.
The site is about 1 1/2 hour from the coast, and we found a side notched sharks tooths about 2 feet down. Fossils in our area are 10 to 20 feet down at least if not deeper. So we think this was carried in.
So this would indicate this band of Indians traveled from North Carolina or upper piedmont at least to the coast trading material or finding it themselves.
Lots of pottery to clean up with some designs I have not found before.
Great day with new material and the Sharks Tooth which was the last thing I expected to show up in the sifter.

Enjoy.

What our material normally looks like.

Coastal plains chert with some rare coral pieces.

Lots of nice pottery there! Question: In your display, are the "reddish" points the coral ones? If so, I've found a few coral things here in piedmont NC. By the way, placing your screen on top of two plastic folding saw horses is an easy way to quickly set up and work too. And you can stand up while you screen. Good luck to you.

Really cool finds love the Sharks tooth!

Way cool on the shark's tooth. Heard of but never found one on a site. That midsection to the left of the white point in the third pic would've been a whopper.

Yes two are red the third from the left and right on the bottom row are coral ones. The white one forth on the bottom row from the right is also coral. The rest are coastal plains chert. We rarely find quartz pieces down here we are south of Orangeburg,SC.

The tripod has a winch on it so we can move it up and down in the hole so that’s why we like it, we always fill our holes. It is also useful for field cleaning deer which is what it was made for.
Thanks for replying.
I will post some more detailed pictures when I get time to take them.

Yea that one would have been a whopper. It is bigger than the middle one in the case which is a big as a Iphone 5.
We have reached out to a guy at the Smithsonian that wrote an article on sharks teeth being hafted. I need a macro lens for my camera so we can look at the side notches in more detail.
Will post the pictures and his response.

Thanks for the reply SandChip
