IM Sooooo sorry for keeping you guys in suspense!

It wont take me this long EVER again. I work monday-Friday not weekends, so i had the weekend to continue digging. I got past the digging up pulling on the metal to see what is inside but, when i bent the part back to see inside and it was a hole. That i couldnt see down and couldnt dig up all of the metal.

Its sticking out toward the camera.
But its got a hole through the bottom but i havnt even reached the bottom
I will be in there digging after work today
I will wont keep yall hanging
Here is some pics. What do you guys think?
Keep digging?

IMHO it looks more like staples than nails. Probably not too much older.
You gotta dig that junk metal out of the way first,
then run your detector over it again to see if anything else is left.

Have fun!

Good info by 4x4. Get all the metal out first, and I know by experience that you will have roots to cut, SO, take your time, it will go nowhere. If you find nothing else you will have experience that you can tell the children and watch their eyes widen while you talk. Enjoy the trip.
With so many nails in it, someone was determined to keep the lid ( or bottom ) on. This could have been used back when folks salted the pork meat down in boxes.

Final Day of digging will be today!

yesterday before dark i went and dug some more and pulled out the metal. I forgot my cell so no pictures from the site. But i i brought what i dug up to the house. I did sum civil war research on google and search keywords CIVIL WAR, METAL CHESTS. AND BYI SAW THE SAME PATTERN RESIMBLANCE IN THE HOW THE NAIL PATTERNS MATCH THAT OF MY BOX I RECOVERED. So with that being said i believe this mangled metal was actually once a civil war artillary chest and i may have some civil war gold bsrs my final dig today.
