My most valuable thing I’ve dug has to be this snake buckle. I saw one in a museum once and thought I’d like to find one someday. Little did I know it would happen in an old cow pasture close to work. I had just started that day and had been digging mostly modern bullets and shotgun shells and thought I’d was getting another on my machine. I debated on digging it, but decided I would and just get another piece of trash out of the ground and out of my way. When I got it out, my first thought was “Who would lose a fishing worm in a cow field?”. Then it dawned on me what I had found. I held it as gently as I could and walked to my truck to get my brush that I had forgotten and gently brushed some of the dirt off. After that, I was on the phone calling everyone I could think of and sending this picture. I left that field after that as I knew nothing short of a gold coin was going to top this in my mind and went home. I showed it to my wife who said “That’s nice. The garbage can needs to be emptied.”. I was still smiling as I did what she asked because I knew nothing was going to take the grin away. Not even a trip to the garbage can!! Sorry for the two pictures of the same snake. C525CE2F-E90A-4749-9CC1-27DC139C3735.jpeg C525CE2F-E90A-4749-9CC1-27DC139C3735.jpeg

Wow, most of the finds in this post would brighten anyone's day , that's for sure. :headbang: I have only dug 6 gold items in 4 years, 3 class rings, a 10k wedding band and an unknown karat signet ring and a small pocket watch. I figure my most valuable find has to be the 1877 Indian Head I dug. I was shocked (and extremely lucky) to dig one since I had only been detecting for 16 months.

My best finds were these four gold coins. Six pics but only 4 coins. My first was a strange one all the way around. Was detecting part of a yard next to the driveway of a property my nephew had inherited from his boss. A colonial style home had once stood there.

That particular day was April fools day 2014, the day after my 65th birthday and swinging of all things a Bounty hunter 202 which I had bought at an auction a couple years before and though I had a better detector I wanted to try it out. Long story short, I found the beautiful condition 1932 $10 gold price. The pics look distorted as I view them below my writing. Anyway the day I found the ten dollar I had worry as a knot I had on my throat was scheduled to be operated on in a few days, yes it was cancer and a spot on my tongue.

Later in April went back to the site with a more worrisome mind with my good detector and found a beautiful $5 1878 s five dollar gold piece. Than for the next 2 months I pretty much spent my time doing chemo and radiation treatments and feeling lousey.

A beautiful afternoon in October came and I had just gotten my 3rd monthly cancer free check up from the VA clinic so headed for my nephews to do some detecting. Twenty minutes into the hunt I found the 1894 $5 gold. All three were within 25 feet of each other. Ive went back many times in all conditions, never found another. In
Late Feb. 2016 was detecting a vaccent lot in a small town, house had been on it at one time but now only an abandoned mobile home. Behind the m/h the yard rises up a bit to what once was an alley. There is also a small foundation next to the alley that looks to be from an old outhouse. It was off the corner of this I found my fourth gold coin, a 1915 $5 Indian head. It's so odd, in over nine years detecting I've never found a silver half anything, no Walkers either and one ladies gold ring but in one brief and worrisome span I found 4 gold coins. 20180402_165200.jpg 20180402_165133.jpg 20180402_165244.jpg 20180402_165313.jpg 20180402_165200.jpg 20180402_165133.jpg

Thanks, you're welcome. It's a story I long wanted to tell. The three on my nephews property happened several months before I joined the forum(s) and I wasn't about to jump in there after my introductory post with this, I probably would have gotten blasphemed right off the forum. The fourth coin the same way, (I even have a photo of the actual dig), it happened shortly after I joined so again I kept it to myself. Most other stuff I dig I don't feel worthy of posting as most members have me outclassed so badly pluss they get more permissions and hunt harder than I do.

Anyway back to your comment, when you find one or more it will jerk the rug right out from under you. It will be totally unexpected!! Check out the screwcap signals, and old bottlecaps. GL&HH
