"The Russian Buckle" , Ring, & Merc

***THESE ARE NOT MY FINDS***
A coworker recently bought herself a new detector after she saw all the stuff I find detecting. Her name is Ann, and she bought a new Tesoro Cibola. Ann and her hubby made their maiden voyage this weekend to a spot she knew of that had an old house foundation in the woods. She dug a lot of horseshoes and other old relics from days gone by. I told her she has found herself a great spot by the looks of what she found. She came in today and was super excited, and I can see why. Ann made some great finds, not only for a newbie, but for anyone that detects. I told her I would post her finds for her, and we can hopefully get an ID on the buckle.
Here are Ann's finds:

*1928 Merc. She said it was the FIRST THING SHE DUG!!! Talk about beginners luck. ;D

*A silver & turquoise ring. Wow!!!

*A buckle that says "The Russian Buckle - F C & F".
We need help IDing this one. I'm guessing early 1900's.
She thought this was junk and almost pitched it. :o :o :o

Let's hear it for Ann!!!!
I'll try to get her to sign up on TN soon too.
Thanks for looking,
MM

Nice finds,

The buckle is a real keeper. It is pre 1900. I have some similar but not russian. They usually have a small pat date on them. If I had to guess from the style I'd say about 1840 to 1875. Good luck with a exact i.d.

Jer,
I checked with her today. No patent date on this one.
I'll post it in the "what is it" section too.
Thanks again,
MM

She brought me another bag of "junk" today to show me.
She had an old Ford truck "V8" hubcap, old 1930's (?) truck mirror, an aluminum Dr. Pepper sign, and some old item with a moon on it & a patent number. I told her she is onto a very good site with what she has dug so far. I felt bad for her, as she was hunting in an all metal mode on what is a trashy area right now. She was even digging tiny foil pieces. :'( She invited me with to show her a few things, since she is new at this. We're going to line something up next week.

It looks to me like a suspender clip. Same style as most I've seen, except for the fact that it is two-piece. My guess is that the "design" was "imported" from "Russia" to make the clip "superior" to other competing brands. ;)

You should pass along a bit of advice about field-cleaning of silver coins to Ann. :P Since she just started, now's the time to get in the habit of good recovery practices.

Cheers,

Hi MM:

Tell your friend nice finds and to just keep it goin. The only reference I can find to FC&F is an HO scale , RR car manufactoring co. ????? I would venture a guess and say it is turn of the century or a little later maybe in the teens.

Thanks BB. I'll do that.
On the clip, what do you think? Mid-late 1800's?

Possibly related?

The following is taken from a "Holiday Goods" article in the New York Times, December 18, 1871, listing items available at Brooks Brothers:

Re: "The Russian Buckle" , Ring, & Merc

MM, I think your friend had some nice finds. I also think that the buckle is either a suspender clip OR A buckle for an adjustable gun sling. Check this link http://www.ww1remembered.org/imperial_russian_ww1slings.htm ......"In this manner, the earlier pattern Russian buckle and button slings could be utilized with rifles equipped with slotted stocks."
