These old Chains I found on Lauerl Hill where they lowered wagons down on The Oregon Trail in oregon

I found these old chain links at the top of LAUERL HILL with my GARRET
these are very old
what kind of iron are these?
are they worth anything
I seen similar ones on google for 500 bucks or so
but who knows
these are pretty old

His chain is modern electrowelded twisted link chain.I,ve used many feet of it on traps back when I ran a trapline.

I think at least after 1930s. What do you think, crashbandicoot? I am no expert just know that coated chain modern. I really think more like 1960s or so.

I think later than 30s.Far as I know without looking it up is that machine electrowelded twisted link chain came into wide use early 60s or so as you stated. I first used it to replace standard chain on traps in about 1966. Coils up a lot neater and doesn,t tangle when you pack traps in your back pack a long ways.

Then my gut feeling of 60s looks good.

My original thoughts of an alien Conastaga Space Ship still may be the source of the chains. Likely for an anchor when they docked the space ship.

And of course they used only the best modern,electrowelded,twist link chain.Those Conestoga Space Ships are hard to hold!

Please stop spreading misinformation. It is a fact that the Conastaga Space Ship only ever visited the east coast of the U.S..

I have been told that as the spaceship swoops down for a landing, they throw the anchor and chain out to slow down for landing. I believe they drop anchor at about 75 meters above ground. It is wise not to be in front of the anchor as it drags along finding a solid resting place.

That is true prior to 1948, but top secret landings have taken place out west since then.

Au contraire my king of the canslaw,the same old guy told me he had it all wrong the first time and after refreshing his memory with several rounds of strong drink admitted that indeed the CSS had dragged anchor over the former Oregon trail.

Those chains are hand-forged
I wouldn’t expect that you would get anything for them
