So winter is here and you would think it's time to hunker down here in Indiana. That's not the case this year. It's been a mild winter so far and I'm really suprised. As I read threads on the site I see people are getting out into the woods and fields. So leaving the parks and peoples yards I want to venture out to have a go at it. Do some research on the 1874 county map with homestead locations and I'm ready. Well let me tell you I have been bombing out BIGTIME. I'm sure everyone gets in a slump now and then but mine has lasted six weeks and it's killing me. I can assure you that I have put thirty to forty hours in with nothing to show for it except headstamps and bent up forks. The thing is that giving up or quitting is not in this mans body.

Inside the city limits there is a beanfield. Everytime I drive by it I always look at it. Like it's saying "hey dummy over here". Do some research and there has been nothing there. The land had been sold recently so tracking down the new owner was a little bit more work. Scored the new permission and went there last weekend. I wasn't ten minutes into it when I got a loud 75-77 tone six inches down. Thinking aluminum can I dig it up. Was I suprised when I seen it. I've seen them in pics on other threads. Seen them on youtube videos. Now I'm seeing one in my hand and never thought that I would find one. It's something I just never thought about finding. I hope this find is the ladder that gets me out of this deep hole. Anyway I found some good ones and smashed ones. A quarter and a three memorial pennies. At the end of the day I was smiling again. Thanks for looking and HH.

I'm in Vigo County. When I started detecting last year I had two sixteen oz glasses on my desk. One for clad and memorial pennys. The other for zinc pennnys. The zinc penny glass filled up as fast as the other and my wife made a joke calling it Pennytown.
