Here is a close up of the semi-cleaned up metal case that I found in a Confederate riflepit... When I opened it up you could see real intricate design pattern around a square recess. It looks as if a picture would go there. I have tried to clean these pics up enough so that you can see the designs. It looks like a stereotypical tin to hold a photo to me.(You want pictures, here they are) How about you?????

No, I thought that for a second too but it is way too thin. I looked at and compared it to another. Maybe I should take another picture also but it has a square depression where it looks like a picture would go and if you look really close at the picture above, around the square depression is some really ornate designs like you would see on the back of a dollar bill....interlace looking design. This strongly suggests that it was something other than a cigarette box.

It looks like I can make out a woman in a long dress sitting, but I have a vivid imagination! Monty
