TO CLEAN OR NOT TO CLEAN?

A while back I dug this ashtray up...and I was thinking of trying to clean it...on one hand I kind of like the idea that there may be old ashes imbedded on it and want preserve those...on the other hand it is a bit trashed looking....

I usually trash ash trays if they come up, unless I do happen to see a Stainless stamp, which I haven't seen yet.

That's a pretty neat ashtray. Personally, I would do a light cleaning to bring out the detail, but not over clean it.

This one was in an old pub at one time I believe so I'm going to hold on to it...

Thanks, I'd like to retain its old look if possible....maybe I'll try alittle soapy warm water...

It's easy to bend...I guess it's your basic metal...

Looks like it is fragile. Besides, the antique look is not bad.

I'd do a dish soap and water/ washcloth clean up on it, and call it done.

If you're going to use it as an ashtray, I'd just clean it up a bit with soap and water and call it good. If you're going to use it as a candy dish or spoon rest, I'd buff that baby until it shined!
