A friend secured permission for the Morton Morton Homestead (c. 1750) in Norwood, Delaware County, Pennsylvania, so we met there this afternoon with our Minelab Equinoxes (his 800, my 600). Pretty confident I won the day, though neither of us scored anything significant.

First pair of pics is a brass button that I'm fairly certain is period to the house, can anyone confirm? If it is, I'll be donating it to the museum there at the house. Update: Date confirmed as 1765-1785, fillet spin mold blank dandy button.

Next pair of pics is an oversized bridle rosette, brass with some sort of metal plating on the front under what's left of an unknown design I think is a prancing horse. Update: Rosette suggested to be early (for US rosettes), range 1875-1900.

Other notable finds were a 1947 County dog tag, a lead Indian figure, a spoon, a piece of broken quartz crystal that (to me) appears to be a broken edged point (6th pic), and other random scrap metal for the bucket.

That's a nice collection of finds. The fact that you were able to get permission to hunt this site is a "win" on its own. My favorite piee is the lead indian...don't see many of those posted here.

Oddly enough that's the second one I've ever dug. The first one was the exact same figure, just more complete, 80 miles away from the second one 😆

That first button looks like a drilled shank which suggests it’s period

It is period but I don't think the shank is drilled. There is a fillet around the base of the shank, which CannonBallGuy ID'd as a spin mold or something like that, and a chart in another post put the range at 1765 - 1785. In any case, I've made arrangements with the historical society that manages the house to meet me there again tomorrow to formally donate it and add it to their display, along with the big bridle rosette.

It's great to be able to donate to an on-site museum! You get the fun of the finds and then many more people can also enjoy them for a long time in the future. I haven't had the pleasure of finding a museum in my area which is interested or which I would trust (the two main ones have very unstable funding and management, so I wonder about their long term viability).

Looks drilled to me and it can be both. But I’d trust Gary’s opinion first. WTG donating, it’s important
